When I first began my language studies at the school, I was an upper beginner. To prepare for my objective of learning business-related language skills, I realized it was improtant to build a strong foundation by studying general English for 3 months.
Then, from July 2015, I finally qualified to be in the Power Speaking class. In this class, I had to give a presentation in front of my classmates every Friday. When I first took the class, I was not satisfied with my presentation score. Realizing that I had to change something, I asked my classmate if she could film me doing my presentation so that I could review my own performance afterwards. I would reflect on whether my pronunciation was correct, if my conclusion was appropriate, and so on. The strategy of watching a video of myself and analyzing my mistakes turned out to be amazingly effective, as my next presentation score, which was excellent, reflected my dramatic improvement.
From that experience, I achieved personal growth in;
1. Changing my mindset about having to speak perfectly.
I realized that this attitude could hinder my ability to communicate, so I learned to speak with passion as I focused on delivering my message to the audience.
2. Challenging myself.
It certainly wasn't comfortable for me to face up to my mistakes, but I knew that if I wanted to make real progress, I needed to move out of my comfort zone.
From April 11th 2015 to September 30th 2015, I studied at Global Village in Victoria, BC.
